Growth Mindset

I think highlighting the growth mindset in the "not yet" concept that Carol Dweck talks about is not only beneficial for the improvement in students near the bottom of the spectrum but also those at the top.  I think the traditional grading scale teaches students that once they reach a certain point in academic excellence that meets their standards, they can switch from a growth to a fixed mindset.  At this point they are no longer trying to improve themselves, but simply trying to maintain whatever level they have reached thus far.  I think the label of failure cripples student into a fixed mindset, while "not yet" encourages students of all achievements to aim higher.
